Bangers and Mash is a classic British dish featuring sausages served over creamy mashed potatoes with rich onion gravy. This comforting meal is perfect for a cozy night or a hearty family dinner.
- 8 pork sausages (traditional or flavored)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 4 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 1/2 cup milk, 2 tablespoons butter
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish, optional)
- Onion Gravy:
- 1 tablespoon butter, 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon flour, 1 cup beef broth
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Prepare the pork: Cook the sausages: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sausages and cook for about 12-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until browned and cooked through. Remove from skillet and keep warm.
- Prepare the mashed potatoes: While the sausages are cooking, bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Add the cubed potatoes and cook until tender, about 15 minutes. Drain the potatoes and mash them with milk, butter, salt, and pepper until smooth and creamy. Set aside.
- Make the onion gravy: In the same skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Add the sliced onion and cook for 5-7 minutes until soft and caramelized. Sprinkle in the flour, stirring well, and cook for 1 minute. Gradually add the beef broth, stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Add Worcestershire sauce and season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes, until the gravy thickens.
- Serve: Plate the mashed potatoes and place sausages on top. Pour the onion gravy over the sausages and garnish with chopped parsley if desired. Enjoy your comforting Bangers and Mash!
